Hey there, lovely! It’s me, Erin.
My Early Years & Interests
As a child, I was always happiest when in motion - or with my brain in motion and my nose buried in a book. Homeschooled from pre-K through high school by my parents (an occupational therapist and a physical therapist), I became fascinated with science at a young age, and was “that kid” who constantly had to know the how and why behind everything. My microscope and dissecting kit were among my most treasured possessions.
Karate was an integral part of my life for over 12 years; during this time, I earned my black belt and taught a wide variety of courses including: kickboxing, women’s self defense, and children’s self defense. I also developed a lasting passion for partner dancing, from East Coast Swing to West Coast Swing, Salsa, Cha Cha, Argentine Tango, Blues, Fusion, and more. Travel has always been a passion of mine, and I love connecting with people, locally and internationally.
My Health Journey & Professional Growth
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to experience a variety of therapeutic rehabilitation settings, including inpatient and outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy, lymphedema therapy, and equine therapy.
In my early 20s, I landed my first job in the healthcare industry, as a physical therapy aide. Soon, I began to have pelvic trouble; a revolving door of symptoms that were never quite consistent enough to pinpoint an actual diagnosis, despite the best efforts of several specialists.
After 5+ years of pain, frustration, missed work, and relationship strain, I finally saw a naturopathic doctor, who identified a severe food allergy she believed was the root of the issue. Sure enough, the pain began to fade…. that is, until I became more active, and it returned with a host of new symptoms. I struggled with flares every couple of days. (My medical team advised me to relax and do yoga, which only made things worse.)
I was discouraged and felt quite hopeless until I became employed by another PT clinic, nearly a decade after these issues initially began. There, I was introduced to the world of pelvic floor physical therapy. These PTs utilize a function-based approach, which resonated with me. Things were finally making sense! Naturally, I threw myself into learning as much as I possibly could, and truly understanding what was happening in my body as a whole.
These days, I’m completely pain-free and incredibly thankful to each person who shared their knowledge, expertise, and strategies.
I’m grateful for EVERY DAMN ONE of those challenges…
For the days when I couldn’t walk, so I crawled.
For the doctors who said I imagined the pain.
For the boss who asked if I was faking it.
For all the trial and error.
The humiliation.
The frustration.
The shame.
The pain.
The tears.
The hope rekindled.
The patience grown.
The empathy gained.
The relationships built.
The resulting empowerment.
The lessons & skills developed.
…because each of them served to prepare & equip me to help awesome people like YOU!
